Best waterfall in India | DhuanDhar | Things to do in Jabalpur | MP Tourism
I say Jabalpur to have the best waterfall in India because of the following reasons. Not only it is extremely vast and surrounded by sangmarmar rocks but also you get to ropeway across it. And land on the other side for boating and shopping things made of those pearl white Marble/Sangmarmar rocks. Sounds pleasing, isn’t it? Well, that’s one of the beauties of Madhya Pradesh, a culture rich state in central India. As good as it sounds, its a lot more interesting in real.

DhuanDhar Falls, Narmada River, Jabalpur
The name of this waterfall is Dhuandhar, naturally formed on Narmada River. As its name suggests (dhuan, meaning smoke), on reaching in 0.4 km radius of this fall, you will feel cold tiny droplets of water all around the air as if its smoke of water (not vapour). It surely will dampen the bare skin, fog the lenses, etc. It’s a special and new thing, as not all waterfalls have this property.
Ropeway:
Another must thing to experience here is going over the fall by taking the ropeway. Its really high and the top view of the fall is extremely mesmerising. This picture I took from a moving one, with my camera and half of my upper body hanging out. Obviously, it was too dangerous, but it’s all worthy, you can see that for yourselves.
Although there are some waterfalls, like the one in Karnataka, which is the highest waterfall in India. I would give Dhuandhar some extra points for having ropeway across it, and having surrounded by pearl white Marble/Sangmarmar rocks, and the ability to boat.

Boating:
So as we got off the ropeway, we walked downstream where the current of the fall is a bit less. Took a boat/steamer from there (bhedaghat) and rowed upstream, to the threshold where our boat might flip due to the violent currents of Dhuandhar. Both the sides of this fall is surrounded by huge pearl white Sangmarmar Rocks. Its so beautiful especially under bright sunlight, or full moon, as these unique rocks reflects lights just like quality pearls. No wonder why it’s in my best waterfall in India list.

Souvenir Shopping:
We then got back to where we started boating. And explored the vast market, selling things specific to their culture.
The must buy things, as a souvenir, from here are sculptures made using these pearl-like sangmarmar rocks. The craftsmen are really good in their ways.
Convenience & Favourable Season:
Talking about the convenience in reaching there, It is very close to the main modern city of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. And since it’s situated in central India, it never snows here, nor it is too hot. I think any season can be good to visit here, especially when the sun shines on the rocks. Another reason to be the best waterfall in India. The month of May, June, December can be avoided for being too hot/cold.
