Shivpuri Camp | Rishikesh Trip | River Rafting Shivpuri | Adventure Sports in India

The Adventure sports hub, Shivpuri camp in Rishikesh is one of the primary reasons for thrill seekers taking a Rishikesh trip in the North Indian State of Uttrakhand. Some of the thrills include Camping in the Himalayan woods alongside river Ganges, River Rafting Shivpuri, Cliff Diving, Mountain climbing, etc.  I’ll share some of my experiences on this travel blog.

Shivpuri Camp:

The first thing we did after arriving at Shivpuri via Rishikesh, booked us a place for camping right away. Then we went to the actual camp after crossing the bridge over the Ganges and hiked up the hill a few kilometres. The camps were really well managed with most of the basic facilities like water supply and toilets. It also had an open area to play handball and had a bonfire place. As you can see in the picture, there were 12-18 tents, with  1-2-3 beds based on the demands. On our Shivpuri Camp, they even gave us quality blankets and mattresses. So that must be talked before booking, there might be some that don’t provide such facilities, but as far as I saw most camps there do.

Rafting:

So the next morning we went for rafting which was a few kilometres from our Shivpuri Camp, there are 2-3 checkpoints from where one can choose to board, based on what distance they want to raft on the Ganges. The greater the distance is chosen, the more rapids can be encountered. The rapids are so strong, the boats can even flip or intentionally made to flip on consent for fun, so the guide provides a waterproof bag to keep your belongings in it. By the way, all the guides are really well trained and there is at least one on every boat. They also encourage to jump in the river for a short while when there is no rapid coming up, and can easily pull the person back up.

Filming with a smartphone was barely a choice for us then. Choosing a particular kind of footwear can be tricky too here. Forget flipflops, it won’t work here. And if you choose sneakers/sports shoes, be prepared to get it completely soaked in sand and water, and keep a spare footwear of any kind after you are done rafting. But if you can’t find any, be free to raft barefoot, it doesn’t harm.

Reaching the last checkpoint is a spot for cliff jumping into the fresh & cold watered river Ganges. One can choose to do so, after paying for it, if he/she wishes. After that, we reached the final point from where we walked half a km up the bank and reached the city. Obviously, it was far from where we started, so we had to call our driver. That must be kept in mind cuz it can exhausting to wait for too long after a tiring session of all the adventure sports.

The experience in the city of Shivpuri has been so divine, peaceful and memorable. So much that I almost forgot to take enough pictures. There are only a few pictures of Shivpuri Camp during my Rishikesh Trip, that I have posted. I hope
some of the points and bits of advice I left in this article might be useful for people if they are reading this before planning to go there.
